Last Sunday I did the unthinkable. I went for a run. By choice. The wind was howling and rain was bucketing down – it was as though mother nature was giving me a sign, telling me I had made the wrong decision. But still, I pushed through it, and boy could I feel those french tarts! Okay, perhaps that was a tad dramatic, but you get the point, I don’t often run voluntarily.
So this is it! 2 days ago it was 1 month since I arrived in France! Only 10 months left (actually that’s still quite a bit..). I keep thinking about the weeks leading up to my departure from NZ. Everyone asked how I would be able to last a year and I always said “the first month or two will be horrible I’m sure, but after I’ve pushed through the confused homesick phase, it should go pretty smoothly”. But boy was I wrong! The “confused homesick phase” hasn’t hit, and at this point I’m wondering if it will. It’s so unlike me not to be home sick, I mean I’m 16 and I still crawl in my parents bed for hugs! I’m not complaining though – this past month has been above and beyond any expectations that I had, I fit in so well here, and already have some very close friendships!
This week has been pretty layed back. In Spanish class (it’s compulsory to take french, English and another language), we watched a film with french subtitles and my brain nearly died from confusion, it’s hard enough to learn french on it’s own thank you very much! Other than that not much has happened, my friends started teaching me Hakunamata in French and we nearly died laughing from my dreadful pronunciation!
This next week will be very interesting. Elisabeth is going to Morocco tomorrow for the week for work, which means I will be at home with Louise and Denis, and neither speak much English. I think it will be good for me not relying on English translations as sometimes its very tempting, but I imagine sometimes the language barrier will be even more frustrating than normal.
Differences of the week:
This “differences of the week” section will probably die out soon because most things are really normal for me now! This week there is only one difference that I noticed:
- The names of Harry Potter Characters and places are different. It keeps tripping me up when my friends talk about it. The thing that cracks me up a lot is that Voldemort’s middle name becomes Elvis ;D ( really threatening I know).
