This week was pretty multicultural. The 2 German students Louise stayed with when she did her class exchange to Germany came here and have spent the week here. Honestly, I didn’t get to know them that well because I barely got to see them – it was all go!
Week 18
The two German students (Evelyn and Emelie) speak fluent German (really, what a revelation) and Russian. I’ve heard them speak Russian to each other sometimes which is pretty cool. Their french is like mine when I first arrived which means I had to help them out with pronunciation and things! It wasn’t until then that I realised how far I’ve come!
On Sunday we all went to this place called “……”, it’s basically a huge playground in the tree’s. You’re attached to a harness and do heaps of activities dangling in the air. There are 5 levels and each one gets more challenging – I’m pretty sure they have one of these just out of Rotorua but I forgot the name.
I had a blast! I ended up leaving the others because they struggled a bit with their fears of heights, and instead went straight to the last level because there wasn’t much time. At the end there was a 15m(ish, I actually have no idea) free fall swingy miggigy, and you had to swing into a giant net. I felt just like one of the people from this show Zoe always watched – American Ninja Warriers.
Afterwards we went to a “Lake”, a puddle by NZ’s standards and had a swim and a picnic dinner. It was really nice and fortunately the lake is only 10km or so from my future host families house!
The rest of the week has just been school school school. Today it got up to 31 Degrees Celsius and when I was walking home from the bus I could write my name in the melted road tar. This heat is killing me and it’s not even summer (my friends say it gets up to 40 degrees Celsius!), so of course I’ve whipped out my best friend Mr Sunblock. I’m spending Friday night to Monday morning with my future host family so I’m pretty excited to see them all again – we still don’t know when I’m changing host families.
